Acupuncture in America was first known for its efficacy in reducing pain, largely due its unique introduction to the United States in the early 70s.

James Reston, a journalist who accompanied Richard Nixon to China in 1971, underwent an emergency appendectomy at a Beijing hospital where acupuncture was used to alleviate post-operative pain. His testimonial of the experience provided many Americans with their first exposure to Chinese medicine, and eventually led to the establishment of schools and regulation of its practice in this country.

In many other parts of the world, acupuncture has long been recognized as the natural and effective therapy of choice for virtually any health condition.
